Let’s have a look at an extract of the msg.EDR report.

msg.EDR Data Table

msg.EDR Data Table

Up to 2 seconds before impact, all parameters are completely stable:

  • Steering angle: 2°
  • Engine speed: 2,496 rpm
  • Vehicle speed: constant at 140 km/h
  • Acceleration pedal: 0%

These values clearly indicate that cruise control was active.

At 1.5 seconds before the crash, there is a change in the steering angle, and 0.5 seconds later, the ABS system engages. The impact occurs at around 38 km/h.

Notably, no braking input is recorded throughout the event.

This data contradicts the driver’s statement. The most plausible explanation is driver inattention (such as fatigue, distraction, or mobile phone use), while the vehicle was operating under cruise control.

As a result, the insurance company rightfully rejected the claim, as the evidence showed the crash was caused by the driver’s own negligence, not an external factor.
